Privacy · policy

Privacy, honestly.

We collect as little as we can, we use it only to talk to you, and we never sell it. This page says what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Effective 21 April 2026 Amsterdam · The Netherlands

The short version, for anyone who hates reading privacy policies:

  • The only data we collect is what you type into the inquiry form on the home page.
  • We use it to reply to you and, if you asked to be kept posted, to email you about the cohort.
  • We don't use analytics, we don't use advertising cookies, and we don't track you across the web.
  • You can ask us to show you your data, correct it, or delete it, at any time, by emailing hello@platouniversity.org.

The long version follows.

Who is responsible

This site and the data collected through it are the responsibility of Jesse Gonzalez, trading as a Dutch sole trader (eenmanszaak), registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under KvK number 70565783, based in Amsterdam. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Jesse is the data controller.

You can reach the controller at hello@platouniversity.org for any question or request about your personal data.

"Plato University" is the project name used on this site. It is not yet a separately registered legal entity. If that changes — for example, if the project re-forms as a stichting or cooperative — this page will be updated.

What we collect, and why

When you submit the inquiry form on the home page, we collect:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • The city you live in (optional)
  • Your role — student, mentor, or curious
  • Anything you chose to write in the "why now?" field (optional)

We use this information for one thing: to reply to you, and — if you said "keep me posted" — to email you occasional updates about the founding cohort. We do not use it for advertising, we do not enrich it from third parties, and we do not sell it.

The legal basis under GDPR is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) when you submit the form, and our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in replying to inquiries about our own project.

When you simply read this site, we do not collect analytics, do not set tracking cookies, and do not use advertising technology. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may log basic request data (IP address, timestamp, user agent, URL) for security and abuse prevention, as any web server does. We do not access or use those logs for analytics.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. There is no analytics cookie, no advertising cookie, no preference cookie, and no consent banner — because there is nothing to consent to.

The inquiry form is handled by Formspree (see below), which may set a small number of functional cookies on its own domain when you submit the form, in order to process your submission and prevent spam. These are not set on platouniversity.org.

Who we share data with

We share your personal data only with service providers we rely on to run the site, and only to the minimum extent necessary. Currently, those are:

  • Formspree (We Are Titans, Inc., United States) — receives and forwards inquiry-form submissions. Formspree acts as a data processor on our behalf. Privacy policy.
  • Vercel (Vercel Inc., United States) — hosts this website. Vercel may process request logs for security and abuse prevention. Privacy policy.
  • Email — replies to your inquiry are sent from an email account under our control. Standard email delivery involves intermediary mail servers; we have no way to avoid this.

Some of these providers are based in the United States. Transfers of personal data outside the European Economic Area are protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and by Standard Contractual Clauses as applicable.

We never sell your data. We never share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

We keep inquiry-form data for as long as it's useful to the conversation you started, plus a reasonable window afterwards. Concretely:

  • If you told us to keep you posted: until you ask to be removed, or until the project winds down.
  • If you asked a specific question: until we've answered it, plus up to 24 months for reference.
  • You can ask us to delete your data at any time — see below.

Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectify data that's wrong or out of date.
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict or object to how we use it.
  • Port your data to another provider.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@platouniversity.org. We'll respond within 30 days, usually much faster.

If you feel we've handled your data badly, you have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens). We'd rather you told us first, so we can fix it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top of the page. For material changes — for example, if we add a new processor, or begin using analytics — we'll say so clearly here. If we've emailed you, we'll tell you that way too.

Questions

If anything on this page is unclear, or you'd rather ask a human, just write.

hello@platouniversity.org — we read everything.
